Stray animals

Just want to make a plea for everyone to be sure and spay or neuter their animals. There are so many cats running through my backyard it makes my head spin.

This week 2 tiny kittens made their way to my back porch. They were not even related - two different ages and abilities. One about 2 months old and the other one came with his mother and was about 1 month old.

They had no fear and came right to me. I called and called to find a place to take a tiny kitten and the truth is - rescue groups no longer take them in because they can’t get the ones they already have adopted out. I guess the desperation came through with the first one as I found a lady to take him. She does not have any hope of getting him adopted but is giving him a good home.

The other one was so small, he barely covered my palm. I have a neighbor who has an 18 year old, sick cat so I had hopes she would like a kitten. Well he was so cute and when we put him down he did all the cute kitten stuff (just as I had instructed Him to do) and of course she fell in love with the little guy. I talked to her yesterday and she was so happy with her little Oliver…and said she would never give him up and for me not to even try to take him back. (Big, big sigh of relief.)

Next week I am taking a little female cat to get fixed. She lets me hold her and pet her and paws on my patio door to get my attention when she wants to eat. At least she won’t have any more kittens - or coyote snacks as we call them.

I have already taken in 3 strays over the last few years and already had Eisenhower, so I have 4 cats and cannot take in any more. My lease only allows me 2 so you can see I potentially in trouble.

So many people have just gone off and left their cats and dogs there to fend for themselves. The last stray I adopted is a Maine Coon and I believe the people that lived here before me went off and left him. He is such a beautiful, gentle cat and a pleasure to have around. He just wanted a home and family and all animals deserve that. He is very grateful and had a very rough life on his own. He has many, many scars to show for being abandoned.

So please take care of your animals. They trust us to be there for them. In return they give us so much pleasure and enjoyment. I just can’t imagine being without any of mine. They don’t judge us and always love us no matter how badly we act.

If your animals are “fixed” thank you very much…..if not – get them fixed for their own well being and health.

Re: Stray animals

You seem to really have something against the poor coyotes. ;-)

Re: Stray animals

Yeah! Coyotes need to eat, too!
And they have so much trouble catching road runners…
